My Saggy Neck Is Aging Me: Can You Help?

If you’re beginning to show your age, no matter how smooth and young your skin looks, there’s one part of your body that starts to betray your age before any other: your neck.

The skin that covers your neck is already thin, and after years of use (how many times have you turned your neck to look beside or behind you?), your neck skin begins to sag and wrinkle as the collagen and elastin fibers break down. Fat cells build up, the edges of your muscles become visible under the skin, and the dreaded “turkey neck” shows your age.

Sounds pretty grim, but never fear: All is not lost. At Skin Med Spa, our team of experts have treated many such cases over the years, and we’re confident we can treat your saggy neck and have you looking younger soon. Here are a few of our solutions:

Virtue RF Microneedling

One method to revitalize and tighten your skin is Virtue RF Microneedling. A standard microneedling treatment uses thin needles to create tiny channels in the layers of your skin. Your body reacts to these micro-injuries with a healing response that includes production of new collagen and elastin cells, which smooth and tighten the skin.

Virtue RF incorporates radiofrequency energy, which boosts the collagen and elastin production to a new level. This can tighten up your saggy neck, making it smoother and firmer.

Hyperdilute Radiesse

Radiesse is a dermal filler made from calcium hydroxyapatite, which also stimulates collagen and elastin production in your skin, helping to restore the lost volume in your neck.

Hyperdilute Radiesse refers to Radiesse that has been diluted with a sterile saline solution, resulting in a thinner solution that works more effectively in regions such as your neck and the back of your hands. The calcium hydroxyapatite is especially effective in helping the collagen create new volume in your skin.

Kybella

Another method for reducing excess fat under your chin is Kybella, an FDA-approved injectable. Kybella also destroys fat cells, but it uses a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid to do so. Breaking down fat in your neck helps that area become more defined and less saggy, helping to drop some years from your appearance.

Fillers and injectables

In some cases, you have lost volume from your neck skin over the years. Dermal fillers (such as Versa by Revanesse®) can rebuild those smoother contours by replacing that volume and stimulating new collagen production, leading to younger-looking skin as well.

If your neck muscles have become stiff, injections of Botox or Jeuveau can help those muscles relax, which also reduces the appearance of sagging. Both are neurotoxins that smooth the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause the wrinkles. Many patients are choosing Jeuveau recently — they see results more quickly, and it’s less expensive than Botox.

PDO threads

Although cosmetic surgery is the ultimate solution to sagging skin, most people don’t want to undergo such an invasive treatment. PDO (polydioxanone) threads can accomplish much of the same results with no surgery necessary.

The threads are inserted just beneath your skin; once inside your body, they jump-start your natural healing response, which also produces new collagen, along with elastin. This treatment tightens and lifts your skin to eliminate sagging, lines, and wrinkles.
